It’s a long and winding road.

Today tested our nerve, self resolve, heart health, marriage vows and just about anything else you could think of testing.  The  descriptor was that ‘the drive includes the most challenging mountain pass roads in The Lake District’ and they should have added ‘and not for the faint hearted’.

Hardknott Pass and  Wrynose Pass are regarded as two of the most treacherous roads in England and I think we could say that we would be prepared to accept that fact.

This doesn’t do them justice because the roads were so narrow, one car width for most of it,  there was nowhere to stop and take a pic. Steep gradients, hairpin bends, backing up to allow cars and cyclists to pass. Made the Amalfi Coast road seem like a freeway! This was taken once we were at the bottom and looked back towards Hardknott Pass. Looks sooooo easy. πŸ˜‚

Here are some borrowed pics taken by from braver souls.

Along the way there were some very pretty and less traumatic views.

After our exciting adventure, which lasted about 3 hours (to drive 40 miles),  we required serious sustenance. The Daffodil does a lovely High Tea, so tea, sandwiches and scones rewarded the brave adventurers. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‰

A relaxing  rest before another delicious dinner by the lake.
